PNG to JPG Converter

Make PNG screenshots and graphics smaller by converting them to JPG. Choose the quality, convert a whole batch and download a ZIP, all without uploading anything.

What happens to transparency

PNG can store transparent pixels, but JPG cannot. When you convert, any transparent or semi-transparent area is flattened onto a white background. If your logo has a transparent background and you need to keep it, stay with PNG or choose WebP instead.

Check the result if the image has soft shadows: shadows on white look natural, but on a dark page the white box around the picture will be visible.

When to use PNG and when JPG

PNG is lossless and best for logos, icons, diagrams and screenshots with sharp text. JPG is lossy and best for photographs and images with smooth color changes, where it can be five to ten times smaller than PNG.

Converting a photographic PNG to JPG at quality 80 to 90 is one of the easiest ways to cut page weight. Converting a flat graphic can make text edges look fuzzy, so zoom in before you decide.

Tips for good results

Start at quality 85. Move it lower for email attachments or higher if you see blocks around text. Because JPG compresses again each time you save it, convert from the original PNG instead of an already compressed copy.

Large screenshots from a 4K display can be huge. The compressor tool on this site can also limit the longest side if you need a smaller picture.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my transparent PNG get a white background?

JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent pixels must be painted a solid color. This tool uses white.

Is the conversion reversible?

No. Converting back to PNG will not restore detail that JPG discarded.

Which quality should I choose?

85 suits most images. Use 70 to 75 when small size matters more than perfect detail.

Can I convert several PNG files at once?

Yes, add a batch and download everything as one ZIP.

Will text in my screenshot stay readable?

At quality 85 or higher, yes. At low quality, thin text can pick up faint blocks, so check one file before converting a large batch.
