JPG to PNG Converter
Convert JPG and JPEG pictures to PNG files right in your browser. Add one image or a batch, and download the PNG results individually or as a ZIP.
Why convert JPG to PNG
Some tools and workflows ask for PNG: design software, game engines, slide templates and some upload forms. PNG also avoids further quality loss, because saving a PNG again never changes its pixels, while every JPG save adds more compression artifacts.
Converting does not improve the picture. The JPG artifacts already present stay in the PNG, but you stop them from getting worse.
Transparency and file size
The converted PNG will be fully opaque, because a JPG has no transparent pixels. To make a background transparent you need an editor with a selection or background removal tool after the conversion.
Expect a much larger file. A photo that is 400 KB as JPG can reach 2 MB or more as PNG. If the goal is only to share the picture, keep the JPG, or use WebP for a smaller modern alternative.
When PNG is the right choice
Choose PNG for pictures you will keep editing, for graphics with text, for screenshots and for images that will be layered over other content later.
Choose JPG for final photos on websites, emails and messaging, where size matters more than perfect pixels. The quality slider is disabled for PNG output because PNG is always lossless.
Frequently asked questions
Does JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. It only stops further loss. The existing JPG compression remains.
Why is my PNG so much bigger?
PNG stores every pixel without discarding detail, which is costly for photographs.
Can I get a transparent background?
Not from this conversion. You need an image editor to remove the background afterwards.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The conversion is done locally in your browser.
Will the PNG look sharper?
No. Sharpness is set by the JPG source. Conversion only prevents more degradation from future saves.
Can I convert a JPG screenshot to PNG for a presentation?
Yes. PNG is a common choice for slides and documents, and the converted file will not degrade further when you resave it or resize it inside your presentation software.
